Founded by the Rigal family in 1755, the company’s history is synonymous with that of prestige wines from Cahors and the south-west. Since the 1970s, Franck and Jacques Rigal have concentrated on the 135 hectares (310 acres) of their three great chateaux: Prieure de Cenac, Saint Didier Parnac and Grezels. At the same time, these forward looking, dynamic operators also became substantial traders, dealing in all the appellations and wine growing areas of the French southwest. The Rigal brand has become a regional hallmark of tradition, authenticity and quality for a wide range of wines, and the embodiment of the great wines of Cahors and southwestern France. Now F + J Rigal has introduced a well-priced premium Malbec to the U.S., marketed by Cannon. “The Original Malbec” is a fine example of Southwestern French wines (most of which are Malbec), which are famous for their dark color, intensity and depth.
